Puppy Availability Process

A gentle, fair way to match puppies with individuals & families

Cherished Dachshunds does not use a traditional numbered waitlist. Instead, availability opens only after puppies are born, healthy, thriving, and carefully evaluated.

Why I do not keep a numbered waitlist

I know how exciting it is to hope for a Cherished Dachshunds puppy, and I truly appreciate every individual and family who reaches out. To keep the process honest and fair, I do not promise puppies before I know what I have. Each litter is small, each puppy is unique, and my first responsibility is always to the puppies and to the future of the breed.

How the Availability Process Works

1

Puppies arrive first

I do not accept deposits before puppies are born. Once a litter arrives and I know the babies are healthy, nursing well, and thriving, I begin sharing updates.

2

Girls are evaluated with care

As a preservation breeder, I place all females on hold first while I evaluate structure, temperament, and overall quality. This helps me decide whether a girl should stay in my program.

3

Availability opens after decisions are made

This evaluation can take several weeks. After I make my decision, any remaining puppies are made available to approved individuals and families.

4

Approved individuals & families may then place a deposit

Deposits are only accepted when I know which puppies are truly available and ready to be matched with the right homes.

What this means for families

Small litters can change quickly, and some litters may have little or no availability. Flexibility and patience make the process much smoother.

What I promise

I will be honest about availability, thoughtful about placement, and careful not to rush decisions that matter.

What works best

Families who are open-minded about timing, color, gender, and litter availability are usually the best fit for this process.
